Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program: Program Activities

Program Activities

Upon completion of the UB McNair Program, students are well prepared and motivated to attend graduate school and pursue academic disciplines that ultimately lead to doctoral degrees.

During the academic year, students will participate in activities that support graduate school preparation. Activities include weekly workshops, covering various aspects of the graduate school application process.  Workshops are mandatory and are usually held once a week!  Our workshop topics include: 1) funding options, 2) writing personal statements, and 3) GRE preparation.

Throughout the academic year and summer, participants travel to prospective graduate schools to meet with faculty. Students present research at professional research conferences.

During the summer research internship, students will conduct at least twenty-five hours of research per week with a faculty mentor, attend weekly McNair classes, submit research-oriented assignments, and make an oral presentation at the UB National McNair Research Conference.
